Djungan Native Title Consent Determination

On Thursday 2 August 2012 in Dimbulah, Justice Logan recognised the Djungan People’s exclusive native title rights and interests of over more than 182,000ha of land and waters, including Ngarrabullgan - the heart of Djungan country.

It was 17 years since the Djungan People lodged their first claim in May 1995.

The Djungan claims cover Ngarrabullgan was listed on the register of the National Estate on 24 June 1997, Queensland Aboriginal heritage legislation (Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2006 (Qld)) in 2006 and the National Heritage List on 12 May 2011.

Ngarrabullgan is largely covered by Kondoperinga Pastoral Holding, which is owned by Kuku Djungan Aboriginal Corporation. The Djungan People have exclusive rights and interest, possession, occupation, use and enjoyment over approximately 149,915 ha around Ngarrabullgan.
